The Desert Southwest (aka the American Southwest)  is a region of the United States which includes Arizona, the western portion of New Mexico, bordered on the east by the Llano Estacado, southern Colorado and Utah below the 39th parallel, the "horn" of Texas below New Mexico, the southernmost triangle of Nevada, and the most southeastern portion of California, which encompasses the Mojave and Colorado Deserts.

It's been a dream of mine to road trip through the American Southwest. For my birthday over May 12th weekend, Jeff and I began our road trip through the desert with our first stop being sunrise at Horseshoe Bend, Arizona.

We stayed at St. George, Utah and left at 3AM to make it to sunrise over horseshoe bend at 6:20 AM. It was completely worth every minute lost of sleep to experience this place for sunrise.

Sunrise means there are no crowds, it's quiet, and you will most likely meet other really rad photographers crazy enough to get up at wee hours of the morning.
